There Is Room For Everyone
“There is room for everyone”
For years, I have heard this sentiment within career advice, creative mentorship, and equality conversations.
This was a lie.
As I navigated “success” in the dance community, the truth was:
Auditions have restrictions.
Type casting is real.
Studios don't need limitless teachers and choreographers.
After a cocktail of tears, rejection, and disappointment I finally accepted two facts:
1. I was in a “pick me” mentality (which wasn’t working)
2. There is no hero or fairy godmother coming to give me a career
“Room for everyone” couldn’t be rooted in waiting for someone to invite me to their table, hiring me for their project, or hoping my type would be needed by the casting department.
I redefined “room for everyone”.
“Room for everyone” is an invitation to create, build, and share what lights you up.
“Room for everyone” means your artistic voice, your perspective, and your skills have both value and impact.
“Room for everyone” is the global permission slip to give it a try, let your inner light shine, and trust that others will be drawn to your flame.
I was never given The Dance Podcast, Mental Skills Teacher Training, RISE summer intensive, or Dance Teacher reTREAT. Nobody invited me to my Master’s program or any professional development courses. AND every minute of effort, grit, growth, and risk was worth it.
